The English league continues to reject the concept of the competition
In an official statement, the Premier League said it “rejects any concept of the Super League”, which it defines as a “separatist” competition.
The message reads: “The court ruling does not support the so-called ‘European Super League’ and the Premier League continues to reject any such concept. Fans are vitally important to soccer and have repeatedly made clear their opposition to a ‘breakaway’ competition, which severs the link between national and European soccer. The Premier League reiterates its commitment to the clear principles of open competition that underpin the success of national and international club competitions. Soccer thrives on the competitiveness created by promotion and relegation, the annual merit-based qualification of national leagues and cups for international club competitions, and the long-standing rivalries and rituals that accompany weekends reserved for domestic soccer.”
After the first proposal to create the European Super League in 2021, the British government proposed a rule to prevent any club entering the competition from taking part in domestic competitions. This law is about to be passed.
Manchester United has so far been the only English club to reject any participation in this new European competition.
