Daniele De Rossi, former player and captain of Roma, succeeds José Mourinho as the head coach of the team where Portuguese players Rui Patrício and Renato Sanches play. “We are very pleased to entrust the technical responsibility of AS Roma to Daniele De Rossi, as we believe that the leadership and ambition that have always distinguished him can be crucial for the team to achieve its goals until the end of the season,” stated Dan and Ryan Friedkin.
“We knew the unbreakable bond between Daniele and the club, but the enthusiasm with which he immediately accepted this challenge for the coming months convinced us even more of his ability to be a guide for the players and a proud representative of the values of this club. Welcome home, Daniele,” added Roma’s official statement.
De Rossi’s words
“I want to thank the Friedkin family for entrusting me with the responsibility of coaching Roma: from my side, I know no other path than that of dedication, daily sacrifice, and the need to give everything I have within me to face the challenges that await us until the end of the season,” said De Rossi.
“The emotion of sitting on our bench is indescribable, everyone knows what Roma means to me, but the work that awaits all of us has already taken hold of us. We have no time, we have no choice: being competitive, fighting for our goals, and trying to achieve them are the only priorities that my team and I have,” added Roma’s new coach.
The 40-year-old former midfielder, who has coaching experience at Spal, where he was dismissed after only a few games, will soon take charge of the Giallorossi team, of which he has always been a passionate supporter.
De Rossi’s contract is valid until June of this year, with the possibility of discussing a potential renewal in case of positive developments.
