The German coach has been at Liverpool since the 2015/16 season. It’s the news of the day in England: Jürgen Klopp announced, in an interview on the club’s channel, his departure from Liverpool at the end of the upcoming season.
“Jürgen Klopp announced his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of this season,” reads the statement published this Friday by the English club.
In an interview on Liverpool’s official website, Jürgen Klopp confirmed the decision and explained the reasons.
“I understand that this may be a shock to many people at this moment, hearing the news for the first time, but I can explain – or at least try,” he began.
“How can I say this? I am running out of energy. I have no problem now, obviously, I am fine. I know that I cannot continue to do this job over and over again,” he justified.
For eight and a half years in Liverpool, Jürgen Klopp has won everything there is to win at Anfield. In addition to winning the Champions League in 2018/19, he brought back the English championship title to the Reds, 30 years later, in the 2019/20 season.
Adding to the other titles (a League Cup, a Super Cup, an FA Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, and a Club World Cup), he also led Liverpool to two Champions League finals, lost to Real Madrid, and to a Europa League final, lost to Sevilla.
In addition to the German, Liverpool announced that assistants Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, as well as Portuguese Vitor Matos, will also leave the club at the end of the season.
