Over the last two years, under the guidance of coach Erik ten Hag, Diogo Dalot has played a key role for Manchester United. The Portuguese defender, previously on loan at AC Milan, recognises that contributing to the attack is an essential part of his role on the pitch.

“I think nowadays people are a bit more aware and educated about which positions require a bit more physical effort. Obviously, if you’re a midfielder and a full-back, you’re going to run a bit more than probably a winger or a centre-back. But nowadays that’s part of the game” explained Diogo Dalot, speaking to the Manchester United media.

“You have to adapt constantly and you have to do that, especially in a league like the Premier League, which is high intensity, high tempo and where everything is done at high speed and at the highest level. So you have to be prepared” added the Portuguese international.

“It’s part of my game, obviously, and part of our game. I like to say this: it’s our game. Not just me, but all the centre-backs who play in the team. They have to be ready to help the team get forward and defend. These are the demands and standards of the club” said the Manchester United defender.

“Especially for a full-back, if you want to help in attack and at the same time try to be a good defender. You have to have energy. You have to do what’s right to be available and we have a lot of people who help me to be in the best possible condition to be able to play like this” Diogo Dalot concluded.
