Keld Bordinggaard, the coach of Bayer Leverkusen’s under-19 team, has expressed his admiration for Rasmus Hojlund, a 21-year-old from Denmark. Bordinggaard sees Hojlund as a promising, albeit still developing, talent. He emphasises the player’s enormous potential, even considering that he is at an early stage in his sporting career.
“A street footballer is often seen as a creative freestyler, but that’s not how I see it. In my opinion, a street footballer is a technically gifted player who makes good decisions quickly” explained Bordinggaard in an exclusive chat with Tribalfootball.com.
Bordinggaard, who played four times for Denmark when he was still active, likes to define himself as a street footballer, while a current player like Florian Wirtz, from his own ranks, also fits the image.
“Wirtz is a huge talent who is probably destined for greatness. Another example is Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund. He’s a raw player with a lot of quality, and he’s a player who relates very well to the players around him. But he also received an excellent education at FC Copenhagen. Perhaps even better than they themselves knew” said Bordinggaard about the player the “Lions” took to Austrian club Sturm Graz.
Sturm Graz quickly sold him to Serie A side Atalanta, making a considerable profit in a short space of time.
“Sturm clearly saw a player who could help them at a level just below Copenhagen. Nobody expected him to develop like this. Obviously FC Copenhagen wouldn’t have let him leave if they had” said Bordinggaard.
“That’s what happens when human beings come into the equation, and fortunately we see that all the time. You can’t put a footballer’s development into a formula, there are simply too many variables“, explained the coach.
