The coach of the Algerian national team, Vladimir Petkovic, received an unexpected offer from the Spanish league.
Having moved from the Spanish fourth division to La Liga in the summer of 2020, Abde Rebbach aims to play for the Algerian national team. In an interview with beIn Sports, where he expressed his admiration for the Fennecs, the Alavés winger clearly sent a message to Vladimir Petkovic. “I hope to receive a call-up to join the national team,” he said. “When you play in a top-level league, it always opens doors to the national team,” added the 25-year-old player, born in Blida but who arrived in Spain during his youth, thus also eligible to play for Spain.
However, Rebbach will likely have to be patient and gain more experience at club level. Currently a mere substitute at Babazorros, he has only started six league matches this season (out of 20 appearances) and has been left on the bench in three of his team’s last five outings.
Furthermore, he may have to wait until at least September to hope to be included in Petkovic’s list. Indeed, the coach recently stated that he would not call up any new players in June for the third and fourth rounds of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Guinea and Uganda. “Clearly in June, we won’t be making any changes, we’ve already done that,” he unequivocally stated. The former Nati boss believes he has sufficient knowledge of the group selected during the March gathering and likely does not intend to try out new experiments.
