Paris Saint-Germain captain Marquinhos set a new French club record by playing his 436th match on 10 April. On Sunday, during the 4-1 win over Ligue 1 side Naa at the Parc des Princes stadium, he was honoured.
Earlier, on 6 April against Clermont, Marquinhos tied Jean-Marc Pilorget’s record of 435 games. He broke that record in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Barcelona on 10 April with a 2-3 victory.
On entering the pitch, Marquinhos was greeted by his PSG team-mates, accompanied by his family. Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the club’s president, presented him with a bouquet of flowers and a trophy in the shape of the Eiffel Tower.
Overcome with emotion, Marquinhos said: “Tonight is a very emotional night for me. Winning this trophy is an immense source of pride. PSG is my life.” He also paid tribute to Jean-Marc Pilorget, highlighting the honour of wearing the club’s shirt and the responsibility that comes with it.
Since joining PSG in 2013 at the age of 19 from Roma for around 30 million euros, the 29-year-old Brazilian has become a key part of the team. During his time at the club, he has won eight championships, eight super cups, six French Cups and six French League Cups.
