The home team seized back the crown with a commanding 3-0 victory over Cadiz earlier that day, while Barcelona’s subsequent 4-2 defeat to Girona sealed Madrid’s triumph. Only a Barcelona win could have delayed Madrid’s celebrations. However, Girona, now in second place, faces an insurmountable 13-point gap with only 12 points left to contest.
Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid’s head coach, credited the team’s success to their ability to maintain focus and avoid dropping points in the crucial final stretch of the season. He highlighted the significance of Jude Bellingham’s late goal against Barcelona, which helped Madrid maintain their lead in the standings.
Looking ahead, Madrid has a chance to further enhance their illustrious record with a 15th European Cup as they host Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final on Wednesday. The tie hangs in the balance following a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Germany. The winner will face either Paris Saint-Germain or Borussia Dortmund in the final on June 1st.
Despite the joyous occasion, the club has decided to postpone their traditional downtown celebration in Madrid until the following Saturday, following the crucial match against Bayern.
