On Tuesday, following his side’s elimination from the Champions League semi-finals against Borussia Dortmund, the French striker admitted that his team hadn’t done enough to emerge victorious.
“We’re not completely defeated, we still have goals to achieve this season” reacted Kylian Mbappé in the mixed zone at the Parc des Princes, where his team lost 0-1 to Dortmund, who had already won by the same scoreline in the first leg.
Although Paris Saint-Germain have now mathematically secured the Ligue 1 title, they still have to play in the French Cup final against Lyon on 25 May in Lille.
“We’re very disappointed because we wanted to qualify, but in the Champions League it’s crucial to be effective in the box and they were better than us at that” he said.
“I tried to help as much as possible. I think I’m the first to recognise that we needed to be more efficient, and it’s up to me to score” he insisted, acknowledging his role as the team’s top scorer.
Despite the situation, Mbappé emphasised that PSG had shown they were “capable of going far” in the continental competition, reaching the semi-finals.
“There was no arrogance. The group was calm. That’s football, we didn’t manage to put together all the elements needed to reach the final” he concluded.
