Andrew Cole and John Terry have been officially inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame, as announced by England’s top football division on Monday.
Both English players were chosen from among 15 former players, after combining the votes of fans globally with those of the Premier League awards jury. They join Ashley Cole, who had already received the honour this year, in becoming the 23rd and 24th members of the Hall of Fame.
These three legendary players will be honoured at a special event in London on Tuesday. Andy Cole, aged 52, is the fourth highest scorer in the Premier League, scoring 187 goals in 414 games and winning five titles with Manchester United. He also had spells at other clubs, such as Newcastle, where he was top scorer on his Premier League debut.
John Terry, at 43, is the most successful captain in Chelsea’s history, leading the club to five Premier League titles. He holds the record for the most games without conceding a goal as a defender, with 214 games, and is the defender with the most goals in the history of the league, with 41 goals in 492 games in the top flight.
Richard Masters, CEO of the Premier League, praised Cole and Terry, considering them “worthy additions” to the Hall of Fame. Masters emphasised that Cole was one of the Premier League’s greatest strikers, while Terry was instrumental in Chelsea’s rise in English football.
