Appointed as the new coach of the Cameroon national team by the Ministry of Sports and to general surprise, Marc Brys is set to land in the country soon despite the confusion surrounding his situation.

Until now, doubts still lingered about the Belgian technician’s assumption of duties at the helm of the Indomitable Lions, with the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) not recognizing his appointment. On the Belgian side, La Dernière Heure, however, assures that, “from a reliable source, we have learned that the Antwerp native’s appointment has been confirmed.”

At present, the Ministry of Sports seems unyielding and stands a good chance of winning the tug-of-war against Fecafoot, led by Samuel Eto’o. Even though the institution is scandalized and decries what appears to be interference from the state. Fecafoot has indeed stated that it “learned, at the same time as all Cameroonians,” about the appointment of the coach and his assistant François Omam-Biyik. If nothing is officially confirmed at the moment and a last-minute twist is still possible, the 61-year-old coach is expected to be the new coach of the Indomitable Lions. He is expected to arrive next Friday, April 12, in Cameroon, as reported by Canal 2 International.

Marc Brys: “everything fell into place quickly with Cameroon”
A coach for 26 years, Marc Brys has never had the opportunity to manage a national team. This should normally be done imminently. “It’s also a challenge to work this way. I’ve never been a national team coach. You have to try to bond a group that you see very little of,” he recently explained to Sporza media. Seeing the former coach of OH Leuven (Belgium) on the bench of the Indomitable Lions was by no means obvious at first.

“I told my wife: that’s enough. We’re going there (to Crete where he retired, ed.) to take a step back. But everything fell into place quickly with Cameroon, both in terms of sports and financially,” he told the Belgian media. The Antwerp native will have the objective of leading the Indomitable Lions to qualification for the 2026 World Cup. Unless there is a turnaround, his first matches will take place in June, against Cape Verde and Angola.
