Marc Brys, the new coach of Cameroon (whose official confirmation by the Fécafoot is still pending!), had a conversation with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, the experienced striker from Bayern Munich.
Despite being 35 years old, the center-forward, with 73 caps and 20 goals for the Cameroonian national team, likely still has a role to play in the squad. Although not particularly decisive this season with Bayern (2 goals in 26 Bundesliga matches), the former Parisian was notably absent during the AFCON earlier this year, prompting much speculation about his future with the national team.
As part of his physical and virtual tour, Brys and his assistant Joachim Mununga had a video conference with the Bayern player on Sunday. As shown in a circulating photo on social media, there seemed to be a good rapport. The screenshot depicts Choupo-Moting with a smile on his face, suggesting that his journey with the national team should continue. And he’s not the only one in this situation.
Onana also in the mix?
Indeed, as we revealed a few days ago, the Belgian coach also took the time to meet in person with André Onana, the goalkeeper with exceptional talent but a tumultuous international career. A circulating photo indicates that there is also a sense of camaraderie between the Manchester United goalkeeper and the 61-year-old coach.
It is therefore reasonable to think that the Red Devil, who was the first Cameroonian international to endorse Brys after his controversial nomination, will be included in the Belgian’s first squad. This could offer him a fresh opportunity in the national team after a World Cup and AFCON marked by various controversies. The answer will come in June during the next gathering where Cameroon will face Cape Verde and Angola (qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup).
