Roma coach Daniele De Rossi analysed the 0-2 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals.
“We played against a strong team and when you lose it’s hard to recover. We put in a good performance, I liked the first half, we got the ball back quickly, which we had prepared for. Many games have gone our way, today we didn’t”, explained the coach.
Later, when asked about Karsdorp’s clear error, which cost Roma the early deficit, he replied: “Football is made up of episodes. It would be unfair to point the finger, other times we’ve gone ahead because of other people’s mistakes. We still have the second leg, sometimes episodes turn games around, there were 60 minutes left, we could have done other things.”
The Roma coach then recalled how the episode at the end of Abraham’s missed goal was also a favourable sign for a team that has yet to lose this season
“At the last second we had a great chance, it’s their year and they have a lot of quality. The fact that they were ahead makes them even more dangerous“, said De Rossi.
Finally, a comment on the English striker’s mistake with the goal deserted.
“All goals can be important, especially when they eliminate the away goal. We could have taken the lead with the post. I believe in us for the second leg, we know it won’t be easy, but we won’t give up“, assured the Roma coach.
