Eliminated in the first round of the 2023 AFCON, Ghana failed to find reassurance during this March international break.

After losing to Nigeria (1-2) while playing with a numerical disadvantage on Friday, the Black Stars stumbled again against Uganda (2-2) this Tuesday in a friendly match at the Grand Stade de Marrakech in Morocco. Twice, however, Otto Addo’s men took the lead against an opponent who had not participated in the AFCON.

Jordan Ayew was not enough
First, thanks to a header by Jerome Opoku from a corner delivered by Jordan Ayew (6th), which allowed them to start the match well. But Ebenezer Annan then conceded a penalty, converted by Steven Mukwala (22nd), equalizing for the Cranes. On another penalty, Jordan Ayew quickly restored Ghana’s lead (28th), but the Ugandans did not give up, and Shaban Muhammad snatched the equalizer in the 82nd minute.

Despite the Ghanaians’ protests against Moroccan referee Bouchra Karboubi at the final whistle, they end this international break on a very disappointing note before plunging back into the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in June.
