Sébastien Haller, the Borussia Dortmund striker, will miss the upcoming Champions League quarterfinal second leg against Atlético Madrid due to a reoccurrence of his left ankle injury.
Dortmund’s coach, Edin Terzić, confirmed the setback on Monday, stating, “Unfortunately, Haller has injured his ankle once again. He will undergo a week of complete rest, with a final medical assessment scheduled for Saturday to determine his recovery timeline. It’s expected that he’ll be sidelined for approximately two to three weeks.”
Although Haller managed to score a crucial goal in Dortmund’s 2-1 defeat to Atlético during the first leg last Wednesday, he sustained the injury early in Dortmund’s Bundesliga victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday.
Earlier, Haller had recuperated from a left ankle injury to represent Ivory Coast in the Africa Cup of Nations. Notably, he scored in the final, contributing to Ivory Coast’s championship win, but unfortunately, he has suffered a relapse of the injury.
Despite Haller’s past struggles with injuries, including battling testicular cancer last year, he recently earned his first league start for Dortmund since mid-September this past Saturday, only to be substituted off in the ninth minute.
