Approaching the end of his contract, Ivorian international Nicolas Pépé seems to have a preference for the next step in his career.
Arriving as a free agent last summer from Arsenal, Nicolas Pépé’s short-term contract is coming to an end on June 30. According to information from Fabrizio Romano, the reigning African champion with Ivory Coast (43 caps, 10 goals) will not extend his contract with Trabzonspor, currently third in the Süper Lig with three matches remaining.
With 20 appearances for just over 1000 minutes of play this season (5 goals, 2 assists), the former Lille player (France) has not had a major impact on his team’s performance. This was due to a difficult start to the season caused by a truncated pre-season (sidelined by the Gunners).
Saudi Arabia rejected
The left-footer is expected to regain his status as a free agent this summer. Although there is no shortage of offers. Indeed, according to Romano, the 28-year-old has received several offers from the Middle East, notably from Saudi Arabia. However, the player prefers a return to Europe. That’s why he signed with the BS Group player agency.
On the bench on Wednesday at kick-off against Karagümrük in the Turkish Cup semi-final, Pépé came on for the last eight minutes of the game, by which time the Blues and Maroons had already sealed the win (final score 0-4). He is expected to regain his place in the starting eleven on Sunday in the league, when they host Istanbulspor (36th matchday).
