Marseille coach Jean-Louis Gasset regretted his team’s failure to beat Atalanta in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals, which ended in a one-goal draw.
“There’s a bit of a bitter taste. We know we played the right game against a good team. But matches are decided by details” said Jean-Louis Gasset at the press conference.
“We’re at half-time, it’s 1-1, we’ve had chances, a cross, a disallowed goal… So there’s still a lot of hope”, said the Marseille coach.
“That’s what I told them in the changing room. Some had their heads down and I told them it was half-time. We have a week to prepare well. We know what we have to do. We tried tonight, but we lacked that little detail that could have made us win 2-1. We have to defend well and deal better with counter-attacks. We’ll have to play the perfect game to qualify, but it’s worth it”, smiled the Marseille coach.
Gasset also praised the Marseille fans, who provided a fantastic atmosphere this Thursday against Atalanta.
“It’s them who give us that extra spirit, it’s them who give us confidence, it’s practically them who equalise. It’s a magical stadium”, he said.
