Klopp emphasised the importance of Liverpool’s composure in the Premier League title race. After turning Brighton around from a one-goal deficit to win 2-1 and take the lead, Klopp praised his team’s ability to keep their composure.
Even when Brighton scored early through Danny Welbeck, Liverpool remained positive, with goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah securing the three points. Klopp pointed out that Liverpool have won seven times this season after conceding the first goal, emphasising the development of the team’s collective mental strength.
“When I talk about being nervous as a collective, we were more nervous a few years ago”, the German told journalists on Sunday.
“That was a long time ago, but it’s something we’ve had to develop together… If we all enjoy it together, then we have a chance. If we don’t, we still have a chance, but it’s much more difficult and that’s why we try to stay positive in all these moments”, he emphasised.
Liverpool, who face red bottom Sheffield United on Thursday, lead the Premier League with 67 points, two points ahead of Arsenal and three ahead of champions Manchester City.
“We’re up there with two other teams fighting for the biggest prize in English football and we’ll see how it turns out”, said Klopp, who is stepping down at the end of the season.
“I’ve decided that I’m going to work hard to enjoy it”, he concluded.
