Paris Saint-Germain announced that French defender Lucas Hernandez underwent successful surgery on Saturday after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament during the game against Borussia Dortmund. The operation was carried out in Austria by Professor Cristian Fink, as stated by the club.
“The player will now begin a rehabilitation protocol”, added the club statement, accompanied by a photo of the defender smiling in his hospital bed.
Hernandez, who was a first-team regular at PSG, will no longer be able to play this season due to the injury. He will face several months of recovery and, as a result, will miss the European Championships in Germany (from 14 June to 14 July), where he was due to represent the 2018 world champions.
The injury occurred when he hurt his left knee trying to block a shot from Niclas Füllkrug, which resulted in the only goal of the game (the second match is scheduled for next Tuesday).
Although he briefly returned to the field, Hernandez was replaced minutes later by Brazilian Beraldo.
This injury represents a further setback for Hernandez, who had already faced a similar situation in his other leg, the right one, at the end of 2022.
