Karboubi has been making headlines for officiating several key games locally and internationally.
Morocco’s Bouchra Karboubi has recently garnered attention for her groundbreaking role as the first Arab female referee to officiate an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) game.
Celebrated in multiple reports, Karboubi made history overseeing the AFCON match between Nigeria and Guinea Bissau.
According to Al Sharq, she is not only the first Arab but also the second African female referee to officiate an AFCON men’s football match, following Rwanda’s Salima Kaasagana in the previous African Championship.
Ammon News emphasized Karboubi’s historic achievement at AFCON, praising her strong personality on the field and her adept ability to skillfully control and lead matches.
Beginning her international refereeing career in 2016, Karboubi was later selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) among the elite referees in the “Elite A” category. Her notable officiations include the Throne Cup final in 2022 and her groundbreaking role as the first female referee in Morocco’s top men’s football league, the Botola Pro 1, in 2020.
Further solidifying her impactful career, Karboubi served as the main referee for the group stage game between the US and Vietnam at the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
