Brahim Diaz, who recently chose the Moroccan national team over Spain, has not even had the chance to make his debut with the Atlas Lions yet, but he is already rumored to be part of the Olympic Games this summer in Paris.
At least according to recent revelations from Revelo. The Iberian media specifies that the Real Madrid player has been offered to play in the Olympics with the U23 team, which may have influenced his decision to represent the Atlas Lions. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder could head to Paris alongside another star player, Achraf Hakimi, the right-back for Paris Saint-Germain and the Moroccan national team. Both players (24 and 25 years old respectively), who were born in Spain, could therefore participate in the tournament thanks to the rule allowing the presence of three players over the age of twenty-three per team.
D-6 before the draw!
The draw for the group stage of the men’s football event at the Olympics will take place on Wednesday, March 20 at 8 p.m. at the headquarters of the Paris 2024 organizing committee. In less than a week, we will know who Morocco’s opponents will be. For the record, almost all the teams qualified for the Olympics are already known (12 out of 16). The squad led by Tarik Sektioui could potentially face the following teams: Ukraine, Spain, Israel, Dominican Republic, United States, New Zealand, Paraguay, or Argentina.
A star-studded cast at the Olympics?
Although it remains hypothetical at this point, the prospect of seeing Brahim Diaz and Achraf Hakimi on the Moroccan side, as well as Kylian Mbappé and possibly Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud on the French team, led by legend Thierry Henry, would make the competition even more thrilling. Even though the situation seems uncertain for Mbappé in particular.
