Ahead of the derby against Betis, Moroccan forward Youssef En-Nesyri was invited to speak about his future at Sevilla.
A few hours before his 15th derby against Betis (1-1), on Sunday, for the 33rd matchday of the Spanish league, En-Nesyri spoke in a brief interview with Marca.
While he’s having one of his best seasons in Andalusia statistically (16 goals, 3 assists in 35 matches), according to his own admission, the Atlas Lions’ center-forward (71 caps, 20 goals) doesn’t necessarily have a good relationship with his coach Quique Sánchez Flores. As a reminder, he criticized him in mid-March when he was substituted against Vigo just after the hour mark.
En-Nesyri sidesteps
In this context, the future of the Fes-born player is uncertain. Especially since his contract expires next year. While he appreciates the support from the fans, who chanted his name on Monday at the Sánchez Pizjuán, during the victory against Mallorca (2-1), where he scored and provided an assist, the former Malaga player indeed avoided discussing what comes next with Sevilla.
“For now, I’m not thinking about anything. What I’m thinking about is having a good year and holding my head high in Sevilla. Whether I leave or not in the end? The most important thing for me is the remaining matches to play,” he reacted. “My last derby? I don’t know if it’s my last one or not. But I’m going to play the match with the desire to win and leave the supporters happy with this result in the derby.” So, the summer could be eventful for the current top scorer of the Rojiblancos, who reportedly interests AC Milan, Juventus Turin, and West Ham among others.
