The goalkeeper of the Atlas Lions, Yassine Bounou, expressed confidence in the future of the Moroccan team.
After defeating the Palancas Negras of Angola (1-0) at the Grand Stade in Agadir last Friday, Yassine Bounou and his teammates aim for another victory on Tuesday against Mauritania in the same venue to conclude this international break. Another win for Walid Regragui’s men would bolster their confidence for the continuation of changes initiated after the painful elimination in the round of 16 of the 2023 AFCON. The ultimate goal remains winning the 2025 AFCON on home soil.
Present at Sunday’s collective training session, the Al-Hilal goalkeeper sought the support of the fans who attended the match against Angola. “The reception from the public was fantastic as always, it’s not the first time and the match was played at a high level… We feel the responsibility weighing on our shoulders (since finishing fourth at the 2022 World Cup) and I ask the public to support us as usual,” said the former Sevilla player to the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
“They will become great players”
He then expressed optimism for the medium to long-term future of the team, highlighting the significant pool of promising young talents like Brahim Diaz and Eliesse Ben Seghir, who impressed in their debut for the Atlas Lions last week. According to Bounou, this young generation will easily surpass their predecessors. “The average age is low, and these young players will exceed what we have achieved, they will become great players,” he predicted. “As you can see, today’s football relies on youth, and we have three teams and great players, hamdoullah.” The players concerned will appreciate it.
