On 1 November 2003, a young Portuguese, fast and with disconcerting dribbles, made his scoring debut for Manchester United. We’re talking, of course, about Cristiano Ronaldo.
At the time, the winger had become Sporting’s highest ever sale, with the club raking in around 17 million euros. Ronaldo went on to score 118 goals in his first spell with the Red Devils, winning numerous collective and individual trophies, including three Premier Leagues, a Champions League, a Golden Boot and a Ballon d’Or, the last time a player competing in the English league won the most coveted individual award.
In his second spell at the Manchester club, the striker scored 27 goals, but ended up leaving for Al-Nassr during the second season after falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.
