Egypt’s football federation has sacked their head coach following a disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign that ended their bid for an eighth title.
Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria was dismissed after Egypt’s struggles, culminating in a last-16 exit without a single win. The team’s performance was further hindered by an early injury to captain Mohamed Salah.
Notably, Egypt’s journey in the tournament concluded with a dramatic penalty shootout loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Vitoria, originally slated to lead the team until the 2026 World Cup, has been replaced by former Al Ahly coach Mohamed Youssef, who takes over as the interim manager.
