The coach of the Senegal national team, Aliou Cissé, has issued a warning to DR Congo ahead of the upcoming qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in June.
In an interview with Les Outsiderz, Aliou Cissé discussed the upcoming match against DR Congo, which is part of the third round of qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. After swiftly defeating South Sudan 4-0 in Dakar and drawing 0-0 against Togo in Lomé in the first two matches in November, the tactician hopes to assert dominance at home against Sébastien Desabre’s Congolese team before possibly facing Mauritania in Nouakchott.
“We fear no one”
“We know that nothing will be easy. Of course, we will be expected to perform well in DR Congo and Mauritania, but we are ready. DR Congo is a strong team, and we have a lot of respect for them. But Senegal also wants to qualify for this World Cup. We have the experience, the know-how, and we are currently topping our group. We need to achieve a good result against them at home, and then against Mauritania away. We have what it takes to do it. We respect everyone, but we fear no one,” warned the former Paris Saint-Germain player.
Currently third in Group B, just one point behind the Lions and Sudan, who each have 4 points, Chancel Mbemba’s squad certainly has a tough task ahead. Especially since before Aliou Cissé’s warning, Djené, the captain of Togo’s Sparrowhawks, had also issued a caution to the fourth-placed team of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations ahead of their fourth match. “We are the team to be reckoned with,” declared the Getafe defender at the end of March.
