The Angolan Football Federation (FAF) ensured on Monday that Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves will remain in charge of the national team, following his qualification of the Angolan team for the quarter-finals of the African Cup of Nations. The news was announced by the president of the governing body of Angolan football, Artur Almeida e Silva, who, in few words, did not provide details.
“Pedro Gonçalves will remain in charge of the team, and the next challenge is the 2026 World Cup,” he assured.
The decision was made after reports suggested the departure of the Portuguese coach, who is at the end of his contract, following Angola’s elimination in the quarter-finals of the ongoing AFCON in Ivory Coast.
In the African football competition, the Angolan team was knocked out by Nigeria, coached by José Peseiro, after a 1-0 defeat.
