Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel criticized his team’s performance as “unacceptable” in their 1-0 defeat against Lazio on Wednesday, leaving them in a challenging situation to advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
A penalty converted by Ciro Immobile was the decisive goal in the first leg of the last 16 in Rome.
“We had to capitalize in the first half. We had three clear chances. We need to take advantage of those chances” Tuchel told DAZN. He also described the second half as “problematic”.
Dayot Upamecano’s dismissal hurt Bayern, as the player was shown a red card for a foul in the box that resulted in Immobile’s penalty.
“We had a lot of individual errors and suffered an inexplicable penalty and sending-off” commented Tuchel at the post-match press conference.
“With the performance we put in, we did everything we could to lose this game, which was completely in our hands.”
The defeat in Rome follows a 3-0 loss against Bayer Leverkusen, which leaves Bayern five points off the pace in the Bundesliga title race.
Asked if he feared for his job, Tuchel said simply: “No.”
