In the sights of Tunisia, South Africa’s coach, Hugo Broos, has once again reacted to a supposed agreement with the Eagles of Carthage.
Although initially denying the existence of “negotiations” with the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), and with the South African Football Association (SAFA) affirming that their position “has not changed,” Broos continues to generate optimism in Tunisia. This is evident in the recent statements from the technical advisor of the FTF, Belhssan Malouche, regarding his potential arrival.
“I contacted him (end of February, ndlr), he expressed his desire to coach Tunisia and agreed to wait until March 9, 2024, the date of the FTF elections (postponed, ndlr). Since then, I haven’t contacted him, but perhaps the FTF has. In this matter, everything remains possible. But for me, he fits the profile,” the leader recently confided to Mosaïque FM, suggesting that the Belgian technician might be playing a double game.
“There has been no contact,” Broos assures
The former Cameroon coach, for his part, has once again denied any agreement with the Tunisian organization. “There has been no contact between me and the Tunisian Football Federation (FTF). According to the Tunisian media, I am a candidate. If I leave South Africa, it will be the federation that decides, for me these are just rumors. I will be with the Bafana Bafana in June (qualification for the 2026 World Cup). I depend on the Federation (SAFA),” he clarified in remarks reported by iDiski Times. According to L’Equipe journalist Nabil Djellit, the coach is indeed far from Tunisia.
With one win and one loss during the March break, the Tunisian team, temporarily led by the duo of Anis Boussaidi and Montassar Louhichi, seems to have definitively given up on the septuagenarian and turned their attention to another target.
