Bayer Leverkusen progressed on their impressive way with a crucial 2-0 win over Roma in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals.
“We fought hard with strength and discipline, but there’s still a lot of work to be done. We played well on the counter-attack and, although we perhaps didn’t capitalise on all the chances we had to score the third goal, we’re still satisfied. I hope we can celebrate with our fans in the second leg” said coach Xabi Alonso.
“It was a concentrated performance, with intelligence and maturity. Roma had their chances, but the opening goal gave us more confidence” he said.
“We felt stable in the second half and didn’t allow Roma too much, knowing that if we remained solid and disciplined in defence, we could always create our chances” he added.
