Additionally, Leverkusen extended their unbeaten streak to 49 consecutive games, breaking Benfica’s 59-year-old European record. Despite trailing 0-2 to Roma with only eight minutes left, Leverkusen rallied to draw, showcasing resilience and determination.
Florian Wirtz’s absence from the starting lineup was due to a minor injury sustained three weeks prior, highlighting his commitment to the team despite not being fully fit. Leverkusen’s victory over Roma avenged last year’s semifinal defeat and marked the club’s third European final appearance. On May 22, they will face Atalanta before concluding the season in Berlin against Kaiserslautern three days later.
